OFFICIAL OPENING.

JUVENILE COURT JOHN FOLLAS.

An impressive ceremony took place in the Foresters’ Hall, on Friday, when the newly-lormed juvenile lodge. Court John B’oilas, was officially opened by the president, P.C.R. Bro. M. Rosanoski, in the presence of a large gathering of parents, members or Courts Hinemoa and Manawntu, and sister lodges. There was a good representation from Court Loyal, 1 eliding. Nearly thirty candidates were presented for initiation and they were keenly interested in the procedure. Court John Eollas was named after the late Mr John Follas, of Palmerston North. The late brother was, for nearly sixty years, a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters. He was firstly a member of Court Sir Oeorgo Bowen, Wellington, and then Court Manawatu. About fifty years ago be was a well-known figure in .Friendly Society parades, dressed in Foresters’ regalia, and was always well mounted. In later years Bro. Follas presented his costume to Court Manawatu, and it is still in its possession. Relatives of the late brother presented his P.C.R. neckribbon, diploma, and jewels to the juvenile lodge. A framed photograph of Bro. Follas was given to Court Manawatu and is to be hung in the main hall. Bro. Rosalioski opened the. Court by welcoming the parents and members of the various lodges. Following a short and instructive address Bro. Rosanoski initiated the candidates and presented them with their badges. Nominations were then taken lor different offices, and, after several ballots, the following were elected and installed: —C.R., Bro. T. Burns; S.C.R., Sister P. Bovis; S.W., Bro. D. BerquistJ.W., Bro. ,J. Simpson; 5.8., Bro. J. Rosanoski; J. 8., Sister B. Simpson. The following were initiated: —J. Anderson (grandson of the late Bro. Follas), K. Brown, J. Berquist, D. Berquist, T. Burns, P. Boris, p. Body, J. Body, M. Body, F. Caution, it. Dench, E. Edwards, E. Hartley, 3. Hartley, B. Holland,- A. Lane, G. Lavin, G. Milne, S. Matson, K. Mercer, J- Rosanoski, 11. Reaburn, B. Smith, ti. Simpson, J. Simpson, W., Tate, M. Taylor, and J. Webb. After the closing of the Court ceedings took the form of a social , and dance. Items were contributed by the following:—lnstrumental, Reed’s Band; tap dance, Miss G. Lavin; Irish jig, Miss D. McLean; comic songs, Mr \V. Young;-cluet, Miami Mrs L. Smith. Music for the dances was supplied by Mr L. Smith. (Feilding), Reed’s Band, and Bro. Rosauoski.

After the supper interval Bro. Rosauoski called on the District Chief Ranger (Bro. C. Edwards) to address the assemblage. Bro. Edwards wished Court John Follas every success for the future of the lodge and congratulated Courts Hinemoa and Manawatu on their enterprise in forming the court. He urged all members of the Foresters’ lodges to further the interests of the court by getting more candidates. Dancing was continued until nearly midnight when the proceedings closed with “Auld Lang Syne.”
