OBITUARY.

I mrs j. McFarland. ! The death occurred nt Aorangi on i Friday moraine; of Mrs McFarlanu, ' wife of Mr J. McFarland and mother ! of Mr A. G. McFarland, of Wanga- : mi, and Mr R. A. McFarland, of 1 Aorangi. The deceased lady, who was 181 years of age. had resided in Aorangi for the past 36 years. Of a retiring and homely disposition, she was known for her warmth of heart and kindly qualities, and had numerous friends in both islands who will regret to learn of her passing. Mrs McFarland was born in County Donegal, Ireland, and came to New Zealand with her parents in 1877, to land at Lyttelton In 1881 she was married at AVocdemt and her husband was engaged in farming pursuits in various parts of the Canterbury province, including Mu Guy, Alt. Somers, Killinchv and Springsfon. AVhen the Aorangi estate was opened up for closer settlement Air and Airs McFarland came to reside in the locality, and have lived there ever since. There arc 13 grandchildren. At the monthly meeting of the Alana-watu-Oroua branch of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association, on Saturday, Ah- J. A. Russell drew attention 'to Mrs McFarland’s passing. Air McFarland had been a foundation member of the association, said Mr Russell. A motion expressing the deep sympathy of the members with Air McFarland was carried, and it was decided to forward a suitable floral tribute for the funeral.
