HARD TUSSLE AT FEILDING

The heavy condition of the ground at Johnston Park steadied the game between Eeilding Old Boys and Massey College, but while the match only revealed occasional speed, a hard tussle ensued and in the second halt the visitors made every effort to equalise— Eeilding Old Boys had a 3-point lead. However, they were unable to haul down the colours of the home team, who still maintained their premier position on the ladder. A pretty movement was initiated from a thrown-in by Waugh, who passed to Thurston, to Bramwell, to Amadio, the last-named being unable to pick up a faulty pass. With the leather still in the home team's territory, College continued to press and an opportunity came when Wishhart passed on to Early, to break through the defence and score in the contei. Sherratt was unsuccessful with the kick. The visitors staged another attack but Amadio saved and the ball went back to Campbell, who dispatched it lor Wilson to set the Feilding backs in action for Bramwell to line out in midfield. Amadio, just before halltime tried a drop-kick at goal but was unsuccessful. _ Shortly after resuming,the home team gained possession from a seium and set their hacks in action. Amadio continued the rush, but was grounded and a scrum took place. I lie visitois were penalised ior offside play and Amadio essayed a shot at goal, but although the kick was a good one it fell short. Massey College were penalised for being offside soon afterwards and Thurston sent the hall to Biamwell, who returned it to him for Thurston to send to Amadio, who went out on the side. Continuing to press. I'eilclitm- Old Bovs moved up and Bramwell lined out to advantage. Flay continued here for several minutes, when the visitors, from a throw-in gained territorv, but from a scrum Bramwell brought play hack to the College twenty-five, where out ot another scrum the home team’s hookers nipped the ball and lined it. From the throwin Feilding Old Boys got their backs into action and Deivc whisked the ball to Pawson, who sent it to Thurston and Bramwell for Amadio to cross m the corner. From this stage on the vis tors made the game very willing, but, the defence of the opposition proyeJ too good and when the final whistle sounded there was no alteration m the score: Feilding Old Boys 6, Massey College 3. „ , ~ Mr A.
