WOMEN’S HOCKEY
WANGANUI I3EAT FIJIANS. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, July 12. In shorts and sand-shoes, the visiting Fiji ivomen’s hockey team played the second match of their New Zealand tour on Cook’s Gardens on Saturday and were beaten by the Wanganui representative team by two goais to nil. The play was fast and Wanganui did most of the attacking. It was obvious that the visitors were unaccustomed to anything in the nature of a soft and slippery ground. Haiti showers spoilt the attendance and to some extent marred -good play. Fine defensive work by the visitors was responsible for exciting play, aud Wanganui were prevented from penetrating on several occasions. In this respect the visitors’ goalkeeper, Miss M. Starch, and the two fullbacks, Misses M. Fenn and A. Eastgatc, were outstanding. Miss M. Brooks scored for Wanganui in the first spell and the second goal came from a ball deflected from a Fiji player.
