MEAT AGREEMENT
AUSTRALIA DELIGHTED. LEVY ON ARGENTINE. WITH REDUCED QUOTA. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 3, 10.45 a.m. LONDON, July 2. The Australian Associated Press has been informed that the meat agreement with Britain is thoroughly satisfactory to Australia. It not only establishes a |d levy on Argentine beef, and nothing on Australian, but there is also a reduction in the present Argentine quota while the Commonwealth’s remains unchanged. The agreement will be a - long-term one, and not subject to quarterly revision, thus ensuring for Australia a continuously expanding market. The agreement must be submitted to the Argentine for formal assent, which is not likely to be refused. Commonwealth circles are delighted with the result'of the negotiations and consider that it establishes a principle which will be most useful in future negotiations regarding other commodities.
