OPTIMISTS’ CLUB.
The weekly meeting of the Optimists’ Club was held on Tuesday when a large crowd met under the chairmanship of Optimist C. Voss. Visitors welcomed were Messrs M. Stewart and Purser, while apologies for absence were received from Optimists G. Cameron, A. Tillick, E. Collinson, C. Woods and W. A. S. Newlands. The speaker was Mr It, Allison, who gave an interesting talk on “How Ships Are Navigated.” He gave a description of the various instruments found in a ship’s control room which are used for navigating, and explained how a ship was navigated between England and America.
