MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, June 26. The possibility of serious results accruing from babies being delivered to the charge of unlicensed homes was stressed when an old-age pensioner pleaded guilty in the Police Court today to two charges of conducting a home for children without a license. According to the evidence the woman received a small sum weekly, in one case 5s and in the other 4s for the maintenance of the children, one of whom was found to he neglected and in a dirty condition. The police stated that in February a married woman separated from her husband gave birth to a child. She advertised for a kind person to look after or adopt the child. The child was kept in the home for six weeks, the mother visiting it on various occasions. The baby was found to be neglected and dirty. Defendant accepted 30s for food for the child for six weeks. In the second case the mother had also inserted an advertisement to which defendant replied. The baby was left in the home for three weeks. The police added that both the mothers knew the home was unregistered, yet had 1 elt their babies there. Defendant was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three years.
