FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
LAMB AND MUTTON SHIPMENTS. A BIG DECREASE. Apart from a large increase in chilled beef and a small rise in pork, exports of meat from the Dominion during the eight months of the 1935-36 season ended May 31 show considerable decreases, compared with those for the corresponding period of 193435. Lamb shipments declined by 843,670 carcases, and mutton by 100, ■ 857 carcases. Shipments of frozen beef decreased by 105,687 quarters, and boneless beef by 13,915 bags. Shipments of chilled beef for the eight months totalled 98,505 quarters, an increase of 60,610 quarters, and pork increased by 24,596 carcases. The following table gives details of the meat shipments for the last eight months, the totals for the corresponding period of last year l>eing shown for comparative purposes:

In addition, 98,505 quarters of chilled beet were, shipped to London and Southampton compared with 37,895 quarters last year and 141,037 bags of boneless beef, compared with 154,052 bags. Stocks of meat in cold store at May 31, those for the corresponding' date of last year being shown in parentheses, were as follow: —-Chilled beef (quarters), 104,124 (37,895); frozen* beef (quarters) 160,431 (248,334); wether mutton (carcases), 1,097,740_ (905.628); ewe mutton (carcases), 062,793 (1,103,681); lamb (carcases), 8,255,322 (8,281,986); pork (porkers), carcases, 428,270 (402.620); pork (baconers), carcases, 212,836 (144,082); boneless beef (freight carcases), 360,361 (225,881); sundries (freight carcases), 314,282 (261,400). Stocks of frozen meat loaded into vessels which had not departed from New Zealand at May 3l compare as follow:—Chilled beef (quarters), 4439 ( —); frozen beef (quarters), 8562 (23,278); wether mutton (carcases), 19,458 (13,711); ewe mutton (carcases). 12,165 (17,168); lamb (carcases), 265,689 (395,607); pork (porkers), carcases, 6495 (9079); pork (baconers), carcases, 8803 (4585).
