FARMING~~NEWS. RURAL R A KINGS. Average butterfnt prices quoted by Hon. Walter Nash in Parliament included season 1917-18 24 4<l a lb. In the season the Wailiou Valley Dairy Company (Te Arolia AVest), paid out 2s 10Jd per lb butterfat, lOd above the butter average. The other day it was noticed that a farmer had grown white carrots for his winter pig food. The carrot is certainly the best root to feed for pigs, but the red carrot should always be used especially for the winter months, says an exchange. At this time of the year, when there is very little good grass available, vitamins are scarce, or not available at all, and the red carrot is about the only vegetable that contains vitamins, except, that is, tomatoes, and tomatoes are hardly a pig food. The red carrot is a good source of all the vitamins, but the white carrot only eontains vitamin U, and not a very nigh percentage of this. DAIRY PRODUCE. MARKETS QUIET.
