EAST COAST OILFIELDS.
NO STATE INVESTIGATION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 16. A denial that the State intends to search for oil on the East Const has been made by the Minister of Mines (Hon. P. C. Webb). He says he wants it made clear that he made no such announcement. He recently, it was true, referred to an intensive investigation by experts of the East Coast oilfields, hut gave no indication that the investigation or the 'experts would ho in any way associated with the Government. The activities, if they eventuate, will be entirely sponsored by private interests. Ho had not been approached with any request for financial assistance from the Government towards the cost of the investigation or any subsequent operations.
