G. K. CHESTERTON DEAD.
A FAMOUS AUTHOR. Received June 15, 8.50 a.m. LONDON, June 14. The death has occurred of the famous author, Mr G. lv. Chesteru,. aged 62.
It was given to Gilbert Ivcitli Chesterton to enjev one of ihe widest reading publics of modern times, and front the beginning’ of the century, when his earliest works of importance appeared, to the present day a Chesterton volume lias always been assured of a cordial recipticn. Born in London, be wrote startling criticisms oi life and letters, fantastic fiction, and volumes of essays. In 1908 lie turned ,out “All Things " Considered,” in 1904 “The Napoleon of Not ting Ilill,” followed by “Tremendous Trifles” (1909), “Manaliro” (1912), and “The Flying Inn.” He wrote monographs on Browning (1903), Watts (1904), Dickens (1906), and Chaucer (1932). His series of detective stories is equally as famous, including “The Innocence cf Father Brown” (1911) and “’the Wisdom of Father Brcwn” (1914). Other Chesterton works are “Irish Impressions” (1919), “The Return of Don Quixote” (1927), and “Four Faultless Felons” _ (1930). Chesterton had also exploited his journalistic talents by contributions to such publications as The Bookman, The Speaker, World, Clarion, Bystander, and Illustrated London News.
