“HIT AND RUN” CASE.
DRIVER PLEADS GUILTY. Per Press Association. GISBOBNE, June 15. A ‘'hit and run” driver who ran into a girl cyclist appeared before Mr Walton, S.M.. this morning and was fined a total of £ls and had his license cancelled for twelve months. Accused was a Maori, Osborne Hura, who pleaded guilty. Detective McWhirter stated that the speed of accused’s car was described as “terrific.” while a friend who had been in town with him on the day of the accident said accused was so intoxicated that be had prevented him using his car until later in the day. Counsel said accused's recollection of the incident was very vague, although be remembered hitting something.
