IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

ROAD AT RATJMAI. “A preliminary survey for a deviation of the Ashhurst-Pohangina highway at the Horrseshoe Bend, Raumai, has been made for your approval,” stated the engineer (Air D. Watson), in a report submitted to the meeting of the Pohangina County Council on Saturday. “Should the work he carried out” he added “a very marked improvement would be effected to the grade of the road, and two dangerous and difficult bonds at the foot of the hill to be negotiated would be eliminated altogether; also the third curve in the road would he very much improved.

“With the increased volume of traffic and the visibility at this section of the road being almost obscured by the hill, together with the close proximity of the school, serious consideration should be given to the scheme. In any case, tar-sealing of this portion of the road in its present state could not be considered.” The matter was held over in the meantime.
