THE WEEKLY REVIEW. NUTRITION~ DISCUSSIONS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 13. The following is a summary of wireless news from the League of Nations, issued by the Prime Minister’s Department, dated Geneva, June 12:— The second session of the Mixed Committee on Nutrition appointed by the League Council adopted several recommendations supporting the endeavours to secure for tho populations a suitable supply of necessary foodstuffs, especially protective foodstuffs. Tho committee asks the Assembly to recommend the Governments to encourage and support in every possible way the scientific study of nutrition problems with a viow to ascertaining the optimum nutrition of each country, giving due consideration to the differences of national economic structure, climate, and sources of supply, also to give full support to the health organisation in enquiries into the wide-spread malnutrition existing in the tropics and certain Ear Eastern countries. TRAFFIC IN DRUGS.

The diplomatic conference for examining the draft convention on the suppression of the illicit traffic in drugs opened on June 8. The president w-as M. Limburg (Netherlands) and delegates from 42 States were present. The conference proposed to conclude a convention co-ordinating on an international basis the efforts of tho individual countries to suppress the illicit traffic. The main features of the draft convention are tbe following: Acceptance by the Governments of an international undertaking to provide severe penalties for serious offences in illicit traffic; the possibility of extradition from one country to another of persons who have committed serious drug offences; the creation in each country of a central office for the supervision and co-ordination of the measures taken for the suppression of the illicit traffic; and provisions for close collaboration between the central offices of the various countries. The draft convention is now being considered in detail. MANDATE PROBLEMS.

The Mandates Commission finished consideration of the report of the Fiench Government on Syria and Lebanon in the presence of an accredited representative of the mandatory, and also studied the United Kingdom’s annual report for 1935 on Palestine. The main subjects discussed were immigration, land tenure, education, autonomous administration, the administration of justice, and public health, finance statistics, and social questions. The commission examined the annual report for 1935 of the mandatory of South-West Africa, which mentions increased revenue, improved railway receipts, and growth of production. The Rumanian Government lias signed a renewal of its five years declaration of acceptance of the compulsory jurisdiction of the Permanent Court of International Justice in conformity with Article 36 of the Court Statute.
