BUNNYTHORPE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
The monthly meeting of the Bunnytliorpe Women’s Institute, presided over bv Mrs Jackson, was very poorly attended owing to heavy rain. However, those who did brave the elements were well rewarded by the happy gathering. A discussion took place regarding the programme for the coming year, but it was considered advisable to complete this later with a better attendance of members. Mrs Clark was welcomed as a new member. Mrs Currie and Mrs Flowers, of Ashhurst, kindly judged the competition the winners in the seniors being (the best handbag made from old felt hat): Mrs Wiggins and Mrs G. Jefferies, equal, 1, Mrs H. Jefferies, 2; scones, Mrs Wiggins 1, Mrs Jackson 2. Junior competition (best afternoon tea. cakes), Miss J. Wiggins 1, Miss R. Donald 2. The president introduced the speaker for the afternoon, Mr J. H. Stevens, who gave one of his most interesting talks on native shrubs. The hostesses for the July meeting will be Mesdames Abraham, Lassen and Burrell and Misses B. Pederson and R. Donald. Afternoon tea was served.
