POHANGINA VALLEY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, June 10. The weekly meeting of the Pohangina Valiev Defence Rifle Club was held on the Ilautnai range on Saturday, when Mr W. Howell’s trophy was competed for over ranges of 300 and 500 yards. The day was fine, but a deep shadow over the target marred otherwise ideal conditions. Shooting was of a high standard and the honours of the day were keenly contested. The winner was I). Spelman, who won on a count back from I. Neill and J. Brooking. His “possible” over the longer range was a most creditable achievement. Following are details of the scoring:—D. Spelman, set'—3l—3s—66; I. Neill, 1—32—33 —66; J. Brooking, 3—31—32 —66; M. Fitzherbcrt, 1 —32—32—65; D. Bahner, 1—32—32—65; H. Fitzherbcrt, scr—32—32—64; F. Short, 5 28—30—63. On Friday a “working bee” is to be held on the range to put everything in order for the rose bowl competition which wil be held on Saturday. Docking in June sounds more suggestive of the Northern rather than the Southern Hemisphere, but this operation was carried out on Messrs Spelman Bros.’ farm at Kaumai this week, where there are over a score of lambs. Mr B. B. Bockett, of Raumai, returned on Sunday after a holiday spent in the Wnirarapa. The friends of Mr and Mrs Geo. Drummond, of Pohangina. will be pleased to learn that their Tittle daughter, Lynettc. has made good progress after her iocenl operation for appendicitis.
