SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.

A most enjoyable time was spent on Tuesday evening in the West End School,' when a social and dance was held under the auspices of the West End Progressive Association. About 50 couples graced the floor for dancing to the music supplied by o.n orchestra of six instruments. Card tables were provided for non-dancers, and these were taken advantage of bv quite a number. Mr A. W. Just (president) returned thanks for the patronage accorded the association. A dainty supper W'as served by an energetic ladies’ committee. which consisted of Mesdames A. E. Edwards (convener). A. W. Just, H. Mudgway, G. Lvne, A. Penketh, G. A. Schlierike, F. Sievert, G. Tremaine, J. Warner and E. H. Andrews. The men s committee were: Messrs A. W. Just, S Clark J. Dalziel and W. Schwabe (secretary). Mr J. R- Hobcrbon contributed a vocal item, while Mr Fisher played a mouth organ solo. Prizes for novelties were won bv Misses Butterworth and Ward, and Messrs Sievert and Ax. Mr A. Stevenson made an efficient M.C. The committee are to be congratulated on arranging a social evening which proved so enjoyable. There was a happy gathering at the old-time dance held in the Foresters Ha.ll, Main Street, on Tuesday. The Monte Carlo da.tiee was won b" Mrs Freeman and Mr D. Edwards ; and the lucky Gay Gordons by Miss Willks and Mr E. j. . Thompson. A professional orchestra supplied the music for the dancing and an extra, was played by Mr H. Bell. Mr Rosanowelu was M.C.
