TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD.
Tlie Garden Circle of the Townswomen's Guild held a most successful monthly meeting in the Y.W.C.A. rooms on Monday. Mrs Lyne (convener) presided over an attendance of 55 ladies. The circle had as its guests thirteen ladies of the Linton Garden Circle. Mrs Carruthers, of Palmerston North, gave an interesting demonstration on posy making. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the committee ladies, Mesdames James (secretary), Gold, Drake, Denham. Gillett. llees, Barrett, Sweeney, J. W. Smith, Vaughan and Carruthers. The speaker for the afternoon was Mr P. Black, who divided his talk into two parts, one on the biological aspect of gardening, dealing with the soil, and the nourishment and care of the plant itself, and the other half on the work ill the garden for the coining month. The address was so helpful, and he answered so willingly the manv questions asked, that the ladies feel very deeply indebted to him. A very hearty vote of thanks was proposed to him by Mrs Lyne. Mrs Lynch, of Linton, returned thanks tor a' most enjoyable and insi motive alternoon, and said she hoped the Jownswomen’s Guild Garden Circle would he able to go over to Linton and join them on one of tlieir afternoons, suggesting a ramble in the hush in the summer time. ]Vlrs Currin, of Linton, recited a few beautiful verses of greetings from the country to the town garden circle. The competition for the afternoon was for a posv, and was won by Mrs Denham, Mrs J \V. Smith was second and third, and Miss Gillett fourth.
