ARTIST TO LEAVE FOR AMERICA.
MISS EVELYN GARDINER
To go straight from Christchurch to Broadway, New York, to play the leading contralto parts in Gilbert and Sullivan operas—that is a rare honour, a triumph of personality and artistry. And this is the distinction that has been won by Miss Evelyn Gardiner, of the J. C. Williamson Company, who has been playing a leading part in all the Gilbert Sullivan operas presented at the Theatre Royal, Christclmrh, during the last fortnight. Yesterday she left Christchurch for Wellington, where she saw the comnanv off to Australia to-day. Slip will go to Auckland, where she will join the Monterey on Saturday for ’America. From Los Angeles she will travel to New York, there to join the Berongaria. due in London on June 23. She has hcen dramatically recalled to fill the ro'e of principal contralto in the Savoy Opera company directed by Mr Rupert D’Ovley Carte, and on August 20 she will appear on Broadway in the parts she has played on the Australian and New Zealand tour, which lias just completed. After the New York season, she will tour in the United States and later in England.
