THU NORMANDIE.
COMPARISON WITH QUEEN MARY. The French Line in London recently issued the official figures received from the French Government surveyors who completed surveying the Normandie after reconstruction work which has been carried out. It is stated that “the new net, or registered gross, tonnage is 82,799, while the total gross tonnage is 86,496.” The gross tonnage of the Queen Mary was announced officially as 80,773. The term “total gross tonnage is not generally used in Britain, out it is employed in France for determining the shipping bounties and the shipbuilding subsidies for which liners rank. It is not the total gross tonnage of the Normandie but her new registered gross tonnage of 82,799 which may be compared with the 80,773 gross tons of the Queen Mary.
