FEILDING

ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB. HOAD RACE. On Saturday afternoon, five riders faced the starter (Mr J. Lamberton) in the amateur cycle race to Cheltenham and back. Four riders set down for the race failed to make an appearance. Those participating were Batten and Veri'.v, off the 6-minute mark, J. Allen (4min.), N. White (3min.), and R. Lamberton (2min.). The result was as follows: E. Batten 1, I. Yerry 2, J. Allen 3. Fastest time was registered by N. White, who took 44min. E. Batten took 46min. 36sec. PERSONAL. Miss K. Carthew, of Feilding, is spending a holiday in Blenheim with an aunt, Mrs W. J. Girling. Miss Patricia Goodbehere has as her guest Miss M. Purchase, of Wanganui. Members of the Feilding Methodist Church farewelled Miss M. Meadows, on Friday night. The choirmaster (Mr A. R. Shelton) spoke.of the help given bv Miss Meadows as a member of the choir. Mrs Shelton presented the guest with a pink bouquet' made by Miss M. McLean. Miss Meadows suitably re-

plied and was accorded musical honours. Mr and Mrs Gordon Eliott and Miss B. Eliott, of Feilding, motored to Auckland to meet Mr and Mrs Eliott’s daughter, Mrs C. H. Moor-e. on her return from North Borneo. Thev spent a week in Auckland and Tauranga before returning home on Sunday evening. Mrs M. D. Colquhoun, of “Te Rakihou,” Halcombe Roa.d, Feilding, lias as her guests her mother, Mrs F. Thomson, of Wadestown, Wellington, and her sisters, Misses I. and M. Thomson. Deep regret will be felt bv a wide circle of friends on learning of tbo passing, at Wellington on Saturday, of Mrs Mary Scott, a member of a family well-known in the Feilding and Marton districts. Her husband, Mr David Scott, who was a contractor for the Feilding railway station, built in 1879, predeceased her many years ago. Mrs Scott was a sister of the late Messrs W. G. Havbittle and R. F. Haybittle, of Feilding. NOTES. At the Palmerston North Old Boys v. Feilding A football match on Saturday, Messrs J. Ryan; Kells, and K. W. Eglinton, of the Manawatu Rugby Union, were present.
