MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, May 16. The monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage Board was Held m Thursday evening, and was presided over by Trustee J. Chrystall. Also present were: Trustees W. E. Barber, D. l’urcell, F. Woods, and 11. Seifert. The treasurer reported that the bank balanco was in debit ±ll3B 5s lOd. 'J ho report was adopted and accounts amoi i.iting to £l2O 3s 8d passed for payment. A resolution was passed making and levying the rate for the ensuing year. The chairman sa d that the total giucral rate struck lor tho year amounted to £1096 18s lid and special rates £231, so that the average late over the whoie of tho board’s area was just a shade over 2s 6d. Trustees Woods and Purcell were authorised to sign the rate book. The foreman (Mr T. A. Robinson) reported that cleaning work had been completed for a distance of 87 chains in Langley’s North Diain; tho upper section of Kara North drain was cleaned, 36 chains. Part of the Main Drain botwem tlie Syndicate block atid Langley's bridge was cleaned for a distance of 30 chains; Lean’s Drain was cleaned for a distance of 86 chains. A coffer dam was built at the Diagonal Drain floodgate. The following contracts were completed dur.ng the month : Lower section of Kara North, Kara South, Cooks, Saunders and the Diagonal drains. Tho board’s gang was now engaged in cleaning the Mam Drain, and if tho weather permitted most of the work would ho fiished by next month. Dr. Wall wrote in reference to his rates and notified tho board that he would hold it responsible for stock drowned in Smith’s drain. The letter was received. Messrs Stevens and Easton wrote in reply to the board’s letter enclosing an account for £23 3s 6d, tho cost of removing trees, etc., from Lean’s and the Diagmal Drains, declining to accept liability. —Received. Mr F. S. Easton, in a personal letter to the board, alleged that as a result of the continued neglect of the board in allowing floods to How through the flood gates tho drain had silted up almost to the level of the surroi tiding land, and he asked that the board members inspect the drain and do something to remedy tho position.
