(From Our Own Correspondent..) BULLS, May 14. Mr George Ellis, of “Killeytrioon,” Bulls, left this week on a trip to Jugland .and the Continent. Mr A. E. S. Ward, chief racecourse inspector, made his annual visit to Bulls tin’s week. Mr C. L. Jlunter. M.P. for the Mstiawatu electorate, was a visitor to Bulls this week. Mr and Mrs 11. Henderson left on Wednesday for a holiday in Russell. Mrs G. Fault, of Timaru, and Mrs T. Whiteman, of Carterton, are with their parents, Mr and Mrs A. Harper, “Wattle Bank,” Bulls. On Wednesday afternoon a competition basketball game was played m the Bulls Domain between the Oroua Downs and Bulls clubs. The visitors led by 6 goals to 1 at half-time, and th© final scores were: Oroua Downs 9, Bulls 6. Scorers for the winners were S. Gruinmer (5), P. Groy (3), J. Jarvis (1); and for Bulls, J. Buttdi (4), Minnie Kearney, (2). Mr D. M. O’Connell refereed.

BULLS, May 15. t At the monthly meeting of the Bulls Women’s Institute there was a largo attendance. One new member was enrolled. The president (Mr Churchill), who is leaving the district, tendered her resignation which was accepted with regret. Mrs Churchill thanked all members for the help accorded her during her term, of office. Mrs .1. 8. Thicker paid a tribute to the work done by Mrs Churchill, and on behalf of members Mrs Harris presented tlie retiring president with a handsome toilette sot, and a “toddy bear” for her daughter Betty. On behalf of tho folk dancers Mrs Annstrc«ig handed Mrs Churchill a pair of gloves. Mrs Churchill very feelingly thanked members lor their kind words and their gifts. Mrs 11. Ellery was elected president and Mrs J. S. Tneker was appointed tho delegate to attend the Duminhn conference in Dunedin. Tho points competition was for six varieties of jam, the result being: Mrs D. Ross and Mrs V. Andrew (equal) 1, Mrs J. S. Tricker 2, Mrs il. Edwards 3. The brassware competition resulted Mrs Cornfoot 1, Miss Tricker 2. Mrs Drew (Sii.ison) judged tho competitions and was accorded a vote of thanks. Arrangements wore made for the card and dance evening to be held this month. During the social halt-hour Mrs Churchill read a paper on the life of the composer Sir Edward Elgar, Did Mi's Tricker sang “Land of Hope and Glory.” Miss Eiiu Ellery demonstrated hair waving, and several folk dances followed. At the monthly meeting of the Bulls Town Board there were present: —Messrs J. E. Walker (chuTumi), D. A. Lundy, P. A. Holland, A. W. Amon, C. C. Price and J. J. Mansell. Mr C. 11. Edwards was granted leave of absence. The foreman (Mr S. Howard) reported that the football ground had boon put in order md fence and goal posts erected. Trees blown down on the Domain bad been cut up into 41 posts and a cord of wood. Daniel, Criterion, and Church Streets md Cemetery Road had been graded. Ihe paths at the cemetery had been kept mown; trees cut down, and three cords of wootl cut and 8 posts. The Don iilli< 11 picsident of tho R.S.A. wrote inquiring if the board would support the Anzac stamp movement by purchasing stamps. It was resolved to "obtain £2 worth. Tho Rarigit'kei Rugby Union was granted uso of tho football ground for the 1936 season. Mr W. F. de Roo (district health officer) reported one case of contagious ■ disease, vias., diphtheria, during tho period ended March 31. New buildings had been inspected during the course of crectim and file standard of work was found to be satisfactory. It was proposed to complete a sanitary survey of the area by bouse to bouse inspection during the ensuing year. The motor camp was being cciiducted satisfactorily. Collections lor the month were: —Rents £l3: rates £2 7s 8d; dangerous goods license £l3; library rent 2: library subscriptions 14s; Domain £2 8s; total £33 9s Bd. Accounts were passed [or payment uder the following headings: —District fund £7B 5s lid; Cemetery £164; Clifton Library £3 ss. Mr Holland suggested _ that spectators might obtain a batter view of the Sportiground if a raised bank were made. Members were favourable to the suggestion, iiid it was agreed that it bo a recommendation to the Domain sub-committee to go into the matter, and to have the work done if considered likely to be satisfactory. The works comnrttee for the ensuing month are Messrs Holland, Lusidv, and Mansell.
