YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS AND PRICES. A slightly firmer tendency was shown yesterday on the Wollingttn stock anci share market, gains being shown in several sections. A fairly substantial turn* over was recorded. Government loins con. tallied firm on an active demand. Kecordcd business comprised u. good parcel of 3ji per cent stock, 1938-52, at £lO3 15s, a rise of 5s since Wednesday. The 4 per cent stock, 1952-55, was stronger at £lO5 12s 6d, and 2s 6d more was offered for tho bonds. Bank ofg New Zealuid ordinary issues made a slight recovery at 45, 3d. an advance of 9d, but sellers showed no interest. The D long term mortgage issue eased to 29s 6d, a fall of 6d, sellers holding for 30s 9d. Australasia were quoted Is 6d better at £ll 19s. Commercial of Australia preference eased Is to £9 ss. National of Australasia £lO paid advanced 7s 6d to £ls 17s 6d, and the £5 pad were it shade firmer at £7 6s. Union Steam preference firmed to 26s lOd. Oaniarii Woolien advanced to business at 21s 9d, Tooth and Co .were 6d better at 52s 6d. Broken Hill Proprietary advuiced to 625, no sellers, and the 10s paid new issue to 36s 6d, sellers 375. G. J. Coles were firm!er on business at 74s 6d, but Colonial | Sugar sold at £4l 2s 6d. Tho Woolworth [ isuos were strong and active. The New Zealand old mines had sales at £6 2s. The Sydnoy issue advanced on sales (rein £8 8s to £8 10s, and at the afternoon call "shot up" to buyers £9 15s, sellers £lO ss, following news of the bonus share distribution.
