Mr and Airs I l ’. Duffiti, who have been on holiday, have returned to Otaki. Mr Duffin resumed duty yesterday at the railway station. Airs G. Evans, who lias been on a visit to Central Otago. has returned to Otaki, accompanied by her son, Robert. Air and Airs H. Atkinson, who have leased their farm in Kirk Strelf, will take up their residence in Wellinglm, They will have the best wishes of many friends. Airs F. Kilmister, who has been a resident of Otaki for some years, loaves on Friday for Wellington, and expects to sail for England on August 27. Mrs Kilmister may possibly take up her ponmnent residence at Home.
The bituminising of Alill and Tasman Roads is now ’ complete and the contractors are to he commended on their work. A little cleaning up remains lo be done and men arc giving this at tontion.
Although the attendance at the Anglican Parish Hall on Monday night was not largo those present spent an enjoyable time. Mrs liiggott and Air O. B. Nilsson (firsts) and Airs Bills and Air Alatenga Baker (seconds) were the winners of the card games. Aliss Wai Parata supplied the dance music, Air Rule was AI.C., and Airs Bailey supervised tho supper arrangements.
There was a large number present from all parts of tile district on the occasion of a farewell function held in the Te Iloro Hall in Monday night. The guests of honour were Mr and Mrs E. R. Gowler. who have been residents there for many years. Mr and Mrs Gawler will shortly be leaving for Levin and will carry with them the good wishes of many friends. The programme . commenced with dancing, muse bong supplied by Miss Utiku and Mr S. Sharp, of Otaki. Songs were sung by Mrs R. Fielding and Mrs Signal, and a recitation was given by Miss V. Synnott. /d extra dance item was played by Mr N. C. Davidson.
The ouch re party and dance at the Catholic Parish Mall on Monday night was snlendidly attended. Mrs W. Cootes and Mr W. Nicliolls won the first euchre prizes, wth Mrs Kirby Ranslield and Mr Albert Meta securing the second awards. Dance music was supplied by Mr D. Nicliolls, while supper was served.
