(From Our Own Correspondent.) UTUWAI, Aiay 13. Air and Mrs C. Procter and son left Unnitoi 10-day to spend the echool vacation at Hamilton. Some twenty-six members attended the May meeting of the Women’s institute, Mrs MacKcnzio presiding. Correspondence was dealt with, and the secretary’s report on the recent fancy dress dance showed that the evening had been a success from both the financial and the social points of view. Mrs J. Forbes gave a very good report on the recent, council meeting held at Palmerston North. A talk on a trip on an ocean liner, given by Mrs MacKenzie, was followed with keen interest and was much appreciated. The roll-call lor the afternoon “Suggestions to improve our Institute,” lo bo given in a verse of four lines, was very well responded to and brought forth many good and humorous verses. The points prize competition resulted as follows: —Seniors, best jar of plum jam, Miss J. Roberts 1, Mrs IN ittgate 2; juniors, best coconut ice, Miss A. Hemtnitige 1, Miss M. Foote .2. r lhe Utuwai members entertained during the social half-hour. Competitions were won by Miss I). Choyne and Miss M. Harkncsa. A humorous dialogue, “The Toad’s Escape,’ given by Airs Choyne and Aitsscs D. and AJ. Choyne, was exceptionally good and was the cause of much laughter. Members followed with interest Aim Pettigrew’s demonstration on rubber work; several finished articles were displayed and were highly praised. The hostesses, Aim Btichman "and Aliases E. Wingate and J. Scarlc. served afternoon tea. The programme for next month consists of a roll-call for health hints and a bring and buy stall. The points competition will be for the best darned working sock, its hole to be not larger than half a crown, to bo darned at the’meeting. The Upper Piripiri members will entertain during tile social half-hour and Mcsdanies Wingate, Datchelar and Lillet -will act as hostesses.
