(From Our Own Correspondent.) A ORAN UI, -May 12. A committee meeting of the Aorangi Ping Pong Club was held last night lo read the balance-sheet and report on the opening night, heid last .Monday. .Mr 0. Fitzgerald presided and iMr D. (secretary) read the report. It was gratifying to find that after ah . expenses were paid tne club still had a substantial sum in hand, and thanks are due to all who in any wy helped to bring bout tilt success. Special thanks were accorded -Mr G. Fitzgerald, who as handicappei' had made the tournament keen; Mr D. Durie, under whose arrangements and untiring effort the night piogressed without a hitch; Mr R. fait, as doorkeeper; and -Mesdanics Tait and Graham, under whose excellent management the supper arrangements were efficiently controlled. Air Durie also reported on the membership of the club, which was found to he excellent notwithstanding the fuel that the season is so young. All intending members were reminded that playing nights are .Monday and Thursday, and that the first of the club’s matches will be played in the near future. To promote additional interest and to further encourage members to gain all the practice possible in order to place themselves on a par with some of the formidable exponents whose exhibition on opening night was indeed a revelation and proved an incentive to all players (especially on remembering that they will doubtless meet again in the course of the season’s play), two buttons for competition have been kindly donated by Mr G. Fitzgerald. The club ladder is also open, and the names of financial members are placed thereon. The Taonui Tennis Club held a meeting last night to report on the season’s play and discuss matters pertaining to the club. Mr R. Tait was in the chair and Mr R. L. Tait (secretary) read the report. I lie club was found to have bad a successful season, although the membership was not all that had been desired. Several matches had been plaved with neighbouring clubs and, while all had not been won, godd games were experienced. It was decided to hold a dance next week at which, to present the trophies to the winners, and to wind up the season. I lie orchestra was decided upon, and supper arrangements were left to Mrs Tait. Full particulars of this will be advertised in the “Standard” later.
