TOTAL ECLIPSE.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 13. Arrangements are being made for a party of Now Zealand astronomers to visit Phoenix Islands, in the Pacific Ocean, next year for the purpose of observing the total solar eclipse which will occur on June 8, 1037, and which should be favourably seen from that portion of the Pacific. The organiser of the expedition, Mr C. B. Michie, of JCaitaia, was a member of the New Zealand Solar Eclipse Expedition to Niuafoou (“'J in Can”) Island in 1930 and, although the complete personnel of the party of six has yet to be arranged, Mr Michie expects to be accompanied by several of the astronomers who took part in that expedition. Although the, 1930 eclipse expedition was financed by public subscription, supplemented by a large donation from tho New Zealand Astronomical Society, the projected expedition will be under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Mr Michie lias been appointed leader.
