BUDGET INCREASE

WELLINGTON HOSPITAL. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April- 23. - A sharp increase on the expenditure side was budgeted for in the estimates adopted by the AVellington Hospital Board tb-night for the financial year ahead. The lew on the contributing local bodies involves increases from 19 per cent, for the AVellington City Council to as much as 44 per cent, for outside local authorities. Several mem liens predicted strong dissatisfaction among the contributing authorities, but contended that the budget had been pruned to the lowest point consistent with efficiency and justice to the board’s sta.ff. Last year’s budget resulted in a deficit of £13,000, and it was estimated that the hospital this year would require £27,000 above last year’s estimate, an increase of 20 per cent. It was pointed out that the board was .now paying for economies effected during the depression years which could no longer be continued.
