SALE AT ADDINGTON HEAVY ENTRIES.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 22.

Heavy entries wore the rule at Addington market to-day, and for ail sections of sheep there was a good sale. Fat rattle ■were easier, the entry being an overflow one.

Store lambs.—Forward wethers for fattening sold lu-isklv from 19s to 20s 7cl; ewe lambs sold to 25s for good and to 30s for an exccplional pen of Corriedales. Slorc sheen.—Mostly old ewes came forward. Sound-mouthed sold from 20s to 225. failing-mouthed from ( .l4s to 17s. and two-tooth to 29s 3d; forward wethers made to 22s Bd. An entry of 5500 in the fat lamb section was sold under strong competition. The fat lamb export schedule has been advanced a farthing during the jveek and this was reflected in the market. There was keen buying by , exporters. Fat sheep.—sloo were penned. and an improved sale by "up to a shilling a head. Freezing buyers were paying in excess of 5d a pound for light prime wethers. Best sorts ranged between 26s and 30s, and best ewes from 22s to 265. Fat rattle. —595 were penned, the quality being fair to good. The entry constituted an over-supply, and values for all but a small proportion of handv-weight bodies sold up to 20s a head lower. Best beef made front 27s to 29s per 1001 b; good, from 24s to 265; and rough, down to 17s 6d. Fat pigs.—Both baconers and porkers were a shade easier. Baconers made 45s 6d to £3 7s 6d (average price per lb. to sjd); porkers, 30s to £2 Is 6d (average price per lb, s£d).

April 27. *" Ox beef was in short, supply at the ■weekly West field fat stock sale to-dtiy, there being fewer than 100 steers in the total yarding qf 600 cattle. Although the quality was only fair. bidding was quite brisk for good lines, with last week's reduced rates holding. Cows and heifers',- a high proportion of which were dairy types, were dull cf sale, and although quotations remained unaltered, the market was apparently easier. Extra choice ox beef made 29s per 1001 b. choice and prime 25s to 28*, secondary and plain 22s ■to 265,- prime young cow and heifer beef 22s to 265, ordinary cow beef 13s to 21s. Extra heavy prime steers made £ll to £l2 7s 6d. heavv prime £lO to £lO 10s, lighter prime £9 5s to £9 15s. light prime £8 to £9. small and unfinished £4 10s to £7. Extra lienvv prime young cows and heifers, £6 7s 6d to £8 10s, heavy prime £5 10s to £6 2* 6d, lighter prime £4 15s to £5 7s 6d. other killable cows £2 to £4; runners, 44s to 106 s, vcalers 30s to 70s.

An increased offering of sheep included a large number of prime wethers. Competition was bright throughout, with values fully up to those at last week’s sale. Ewes were also in demand at late rales. Lambs sold well, there being an improving tendency. Wethers, prime, made 24s to 31s, unfinished 18s 3d to 23s 6d; owes, prime 16s to 22s 6cl. unfinished 5s to 15s 9d; lambs, prime 19s to 275, unfinished 13s to 18s 6d; maiden ewes to 26s 6d.

Fat pigs were again plentiful and a healthy demand ruled, baconers being very firm at 5d to sad per lb. Porkers, especially in medium weights, reacted to the rise in schedule prices, selling freely at sfd to sijd per 111. There was no change in values for stoic pigs, which were in fair supply. Baconers made 50s to 665, porkers 32s to 475, large stores 15s to 20s.

HASTINGS, Anril 22. .Ox heef prices at Stortford Lodge cased from 7s 6d to losT The' yarding of 330 head of ' fat cattle included a greatly-in-creased entry of prime bullock?. Useful •weights made from £lO 13s to £ll 10s, and medium bullocks requiring more finish from £8 10s to £9 ss. A splendid draft of Whanawhana Hereford cows and heifers of extra prime quality and well selected made to £8 12s 6d. Others, medium to light prime, sold to £7 and small prime heifers made the same prices. Plain unfinished cows 6bowed little change, ranging from £4 to £s^los. Store cattle found a rather healthier market for useful well-bred sorts. Forward bullocks requiring little finish as heavyweights made to £9 ss. Extra forward threeyear steers made £8 2s 6d, and useful thirtymonths steers £6 10s to £7 Bs. Store sheep met a brisk market for good entries. Waiwhare wethers, extra forward, making 26s 2d, and others to 24s 6d. Woolly wether lambs were in demand, making to 21s 9d. Breeding ewes found a good inquiry, Lincoln cross making 265, English Leicester cress 245, and high country twotooth ewes 24s lOd. Values of fat sheep showed little change, prime two-tooth wethers making- 28s 6d. prime quality ewes 20s to 21s, medium 18s 6d, plain and light finished, 16s to 17s, and prime heavy unshorn lambs to 24s 6d. LARGE ENTRIES AT BURNSLDE. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 22. There were fairly large uitrics in all major sections at the Burnside stock sale. In the fat cattle section there were 326 head yarded, includ'ng a considerable number of cows and heifers and a limited nitry of prime heavy bullocks. Prices from the outset were about on a par with the previous week's rates, and with the benefit of country butchers' conpetition all grades were fairly even throughout. In the final part of the sale there was a weakening tend i ey for heavier sorts. The yarding of siore cattle totalled 351, including several pens of steers, the best of wlr'ch sold at up to £8 10s, while other well-bred sorts brought £5 10s to £6 10s. On account of over-supply vealers sold at slightly cheaper rates. A Jarge proportion of the store cows realised satisfactory prices. The . demand for dairy cows, of which there were 40 forward, was keen, and good young close-to-profit sorts brought up to £B. In the fat sheep p'ns there were 1634 forward, heavy wethers being in the minority. The peiiniri*f»3 in this class consisted mostly of medium quality descr'ptions. The entry of ewes was of only average quality, though there 'were ■a few consignments of outstanding ewes forward. These showed no material alteration ii values although as usual the latter part of the sale attracted least attention.

There were 1126 ifat lambs offered, the quakty being only average, with a few pens of heavy lambs included. Exporters operated at increased schedule rales and a firm sale resulted.

Baconors and porkers were entered it r about equal proportions in the fat pig section, the yard ng numbering 186. Though the sale was satisfactory it did not reach the previous week’s high level.

Best baconers realised to £4 Is, and good porkers to £2 15s. There wore 128 stores forward nid these met a slightly easier market, values declining; by about 2s. Larger store pigs realised to 18s.

ASHHURST SALE. Abraham, and Williams, J,td, report a full ynrd'ng of cattle at the Ashhurst sale, the bulk of the entry being comprised of fat cows (ox dairy) and for these wo report a keen competition with a total clearance at aucion. Forward cows also sold freely at late rates. Several springing cows and heifers were also submitted, and for these competition was sot I'd for anything showing quality.
