WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

NORTH WELLINGTON FEDERATION. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the North Wellington Federation of Women's Institues, which was presented at- the annual council meeting in Palmerston North' to-day, stated :• — "The committee considers that the activities and interests have been well maintained. Organising: We have endeavoured to keep in closer touch with the institutes, and at lenst one visit has been paid to each. Whenever passible the president has personally attended meetings, and group meetings or special functions have had a representative from this committee on most occasions. Owing to the close proximity of other institutes and unfortunately lack of support in their own district, Taikorea is having a hard struggle to retain a large enough membership to carry on successfully and we would like to make this appeal for new members if possible, and for the assistance of their neighbours May we remind our institutes that when they are in any difficulty they have only to notify their executive committee, the members of which are willing and anxious at all times to assist in solving their problems. In February we held a most successful officers'' conference at the Foxton holiday house. It is hoped to hold further classes at a later date. Holiday Houses: We, have to report very successful seasons at both of our beach houses. The committee members held a 'working bee' at the Paraparaumu cottage and completely transformed what was beginning to lookrather a shabby house into a fresh and trim place again. Foxton house was more than full over the holiday season but we regret to report that visitors left without replacing broken crockery. Drama: The summer months have been rather quiet ones for most drama circles, but the Kotahitanga and Te Kawa groups have lately held a most successful competition, resulting in Rongotea being placed first, Sanson second and Halcombe third. We heartily congratulate these teams on their success. Handcrafts and Shows: Only two institutes entered in the institute section at the Feilding A. and P. Association's Show this year—Makino and Te Arakura. The quality of the work was very good and the association presented both institutes with a silver cup. It is suggested that only one class be open to institutes in these small shows and it will be for you to conider and votes on this matter to-day.

“Crippled Children’s Association. Our federation has become a life member of this association and we have appointed Miss Grant as our representative. Those institutes who wish to make donations to this cause are asked to do so through the federation secretary. Finance: As you will see by our statement of receipts and expenditure, the finances of our federation are in a very satisfactory position and we have to a largo extent to thank our calendar for keeping us above financial worries. It is not possible to thank adequately Mrs N. M. Burnett, of Woodville, for her years of effort on our behalf in distributing and keeping our calendar accounts for us. We would like to thank those institutes who have sent in their affiliation fees and donations to the.. Dominion Fed T eration so promptly. It is very gratifying for the committee to have received messages of appreciation L'cmi several of the institutes, a.nd we Mould express our thanks to these. ‘To those members ivlio have taken office in their institutes for the year we extend our best wishes and to the incoming executive committee we wish a prosperous year.”
