DAVIS CUP TENNIS.
AMERICANS IN FORM—HOUSTON (Texas), April 11. America took a commanding lead in the opening Davis Cup matches against Mexico yesterday by winning both singles, and by winning the doubles to-day won the series from. Mexico. Budge had no difficulty in beating Esteban Reyes, Mexico's No. 1 player, 6—3, 6—l, 6—l, but Grant was forced to exhibit all his cunning to -defeat 'Daniel Hernandez, an 18-year-old college student. 3—6, 6—2, 6—A 6—3! Allison and Van Ryn .overwhelmed Flavio Martinez and Antonio Mestro in the doubles. America now advances to the zone finals against Australia. The team for the series at Germantown will probably be the same as that in action at Houston. Allison, the American captain, indicated today, although he said he would probably substitute himself in the singles for either Budge or Grant.
