(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON. April 9. The fortnightly meeting of Hie Borough Council was hold on Tuesday evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr E. Butt) and Crs. W. Clayton, T. C. Twaitcs, J. Curran, junr., R. R. Lind, H. M. Mead. J. A. Roach and J. Curran, senr. Mr V. Claridge waited on the meeting and..asked for the council’s support in an endeavour to obtain a new bridge at Rang'tane in place of the present toll bridge. A meeting of all interested parties would be called at a later date and' be would like the council to be represented at the meeting. It was resolved to support the proposal. The water vvorjes committee reported that an inspection of the intake area had revealed the temporarywork carried out after the recent gale bad given the necessary results, but it was now recommended that a stone basket be constructed so as to give permanent safety.—Adopted. The Mayor reported that representatives of_ the Horowhenua County Council bad. investigated the council’s complaint regarding the bank and floodgate in' the Johnston Street area, stating that they had no jurisdiction in the matter. It was resolved to ask the member for the district, Mr C. L. Hunter, M.P., to visit Shannon and discuss the matter with the council. It was resolved to ascerta:n from the Shannon Dairy Cov., if that company was prepared to subsidise sealing work in Stafford Street should the council decide to preceed with the project. It was reported that wandering stock on the county roads were entering the borough, and the Iforowhenua County Council are to be written to asking that some stricter supervision be arranged on the roads adjacent to the borough boundary. It- was reported tliatfc the cemetery chapel, v’hich was damaged in the recent gale had been re-erected bet would require painting. The town clerk tabled the balance-sheet for the year ending March 31, 1936, which had beoh audited, the financial position of the borough and. the various acounts being very satisfactory.
