RANGITANE BRIDGE.
APPROACH TO MINISTER. DRAWING OF PLANS. Notification was received by the Makerua Drainage Board, at its meeting on Thursday afternoon, from the Opiki branch of the Farmers’ Union, that a resolution had been passed that a committee of three, with power to add, re set up to co-opt the support of other bodies interested, in approaching the Minister of Public Works immediately to put in hand the drawing up of plans for the construction of a bridge over the Manawatu River at Rangitane, and the definite selection of a site. The branch advised that it was not their wish in any way to prejudice the completion of the No. 60 highway, but to hasten the preliminaries in connection with their own project. It was asked that, if the board viewed the project with favour, it would delegate one of its members to join the committee with a view to putting into effect the resolution. The chairman (Mr H. Seifert) was appointed to represent the board.
