In the Manawatu County during March, three permits for the erection of dwellings were issued, to the total value of £lO-57.

A visit to the Capital City calculated to be both pleasurable and instructive was paid by 27 members of the Rongotea Young Farmers’ Club this week. Several of the members had not previously visited Wellington, and consequently were keenly interested in the day’s "activities, which "included visits to Parliament Building, the wool sale, and the milk depot, as well as embracing an observation tour of the various bays.

The Foxton resident who placed 10 £5 notes in a bottle and buried them at the seaside, only to discover, on digging up the bottle, that water had entered it and bad rotted the notes, was relieved to receive advice' from the head office of the bank to which he liad sent his notes for disentanglement that it had decided to recognise their value. Three of the notes were tied together, and were in a particularly bad condition.

An improvement of 23.1 per cent in the amount of current rates collected in relation to the total levied, as at March 31, when compared with the position at the same time last year, was shown in a report presented to the monthly meeting of the Kairanga County Council, yesterday; by the treasurer (Mr N. I. Nielsen). He stated that this year 95.4 per cent of the rates had been paid at March 31, leaving a total of £651 13s lid. yet. to come in. At the corresponding date last year 72.3 per cent had been paid, leaving £4154 19s 2d. outstanding. Gratification was expressed by the councillors at the position disclosed.
