THE COURTHOUSE
INTERIOR RENOVATIONS. LAW LIBRARY EXTENDED. During the past two years the facilities at the Palmerston North Courthouse have been steadily increased to provide for the greater volume of business which has accompanied the rapid growth of the city, and credit must be given the Justice Department for its foresight, as well as its- policy of improving the appearance of buildings which are inclined to become drab with the passage of years. Though it is not long since the accommodation in the main office was greatly increased, new witness rooms added to the western wing, and the exterior of the buildings painted, other additions have been found necessary. These have been completed, and are an extension which doubles the space in the law library, providing two consulting rooms for solicitors and their clients, and a large new magistrate’s room, which is being refurnished. The interior of the main courtroom has not been overlooked, and it has been nicely revarnished throughout, giving it a much brighter and cleaner aspect. Arrangements have been made to provide ■ a new top to the Press table, on which the initials of journalists have been inscribed successively for over twenty years. This form of literary effort will be forbidden in future, by decree of the Public Works Department.
