FIRE PREVENTION
. INTEREST DISPLAYED. According to the superintendent of the Fire Brigade (Mr P. A. Milverton) the public of Palmerston North, both young and old, displayed a keen interest in the proceedings during Fire Prevention Week. On every afternoon a number of school children would assemble at the doors to be shown the fire-fighting apparatus and how it, was used in the extinguishing of a fire, an average daily attendance of approximately 50 children being maintained during the week. In the evenings, which were reserved for adults or children with their parents, the attendances were even larger, 60 to 100 people being present each evening. The brigadesmen willingly demonstrated the use of the various appliances and talks on fire prevention were given. A keen interest in the proceedings was manifest at all times and Mr Milverton confidently expects that as a result of the talks and demonstrations there will be a substantial decrease in the number of preventable fires. *
