RANFURLY STREET.
SEALING URGED BY RESIDENTS. Further representations for the tarsealing of roadways within the city came before the Palmerston North City Council last evening, when a deputation presented a petition from the residents immediately concerned for the tar-sealing of Ranfurly Street. The council later referred the matter to the estimates. Cr. R. L. C. Aitchison introduced the deputation, saying that they hoped to receive as sympathetic a hearing as had been extended to other deputations of a similar nature recently. The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) 3a.id.tlle council would be only too pleased to give that similar consideration. The council had only a certain amount of money at their disposal and they endeavoured to spread it as evenly as possible over the different districts of the city. .. _ , •, Colonel J. H. Whyte said Ranfurly, Street was the only one within 3UU yards of the Square not tar-sealed. Ine dust nuisance was very bad on windy days, and although it was in a good state of repair just now. the surface was being badly c.ut> up by motor traffic Grass plots had been formed along the streets and if sealing was done it was hoped that it would be carried out from kerb to kerb pi order to reduce the unsightliness of weeds growing on the roadway. The road had been cut about on the corners and this would require attention. The deputation then withdrew and the council later in the evening referred the matter to the estimates. Cr. A. A. Langley moved that the engineer he instructed to ' pay attention to the corner of Ranfurly Street leading into Ferguson Street, which had been worn into a. hollow ' The motion was carried.
