EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” MARCH 18, 1906.
The highest price secured in the Reason at Dannovirko lor breeding ewes had been realised when a line of Romneys had changed hands at 19s 6d. The sum of £9948 had been handled by tho totalisutor in the two clays of the Horowhcnua races. Tho sum was £56 in advance of that handled at tho previous year’s gathering. The eighth annual Pohangina sports at Raumai had been attended by about 400 persons. Tho Ashhurst Brass Band had been present. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Premier of Canada, had declined an offer of a peerage. The Government had stated its intention to acquire tho Olrig station in Hawke’s Bay for closer settlement.
It was stated that the formation of Linton Street through to Church Street had been practically completed.
