CONTROL OF INSTITUTION

ADOPTION OF DEPORTS. The monthly meeting of the Pah merston North Hospital Board was held on Monday afternoon, Mr J. K. Hornblow presiding. Others present were Mrs M, Aitchison, Messrs A. E. . Mansfotd, J. A. Nash, J. Hodgene, M.P., T. Green, \V. Howell, G. A. | Monk, V. E. Smith, J. Bojme, M. A; Moody and G. P. Catiey. Leave of absence was granted Messrs F. J; j Ryder and D. Collis. The medical superintendent (Mr J.! H. North) reported that during February 235 patients mere admitted and 233 discharged. Six had died, leaving 200 in the institution at the end of the month. The daily average number of occupied beds was 193.48. One case of diphtheria had been admitted. Admissions to the maternity home had totalled .20, and attendances at the ante-natal clinic 85; The matron (Miss j. McGhie) reported that the health Of the staff was good. Donations had been re-, ceived as follow: —Papers, Women’s j Auxiliary; old linen and magazines,, Anonymous; magazines, Miss Woodman. The reports were adopted. The executive reported that a letter from the Director-General of Health regarding the overspending Of estimates had been considered, the man-aging-secretary making explanations regarding the various items of expen- I ditiire and replying to members’ questions In this connection it had been re-1 commended that application be made to the Minister for an advance of £6OOO on account of next year’s subsidy in order to meet the anticipated deficit for the current financial year. Advice was received from the Department of Health that the board’s application for ait advance of £6OOO on subsidy had been referred to the Minister of Finance for a decision. Official notification was received from the Palmerston North City Council that it had ratified the terms under Which it had agreed to supply the electricity requirements of the Hospital for a term of two years. Received. _ _ , The Department of Health wrote seeking records of hydatid cases treated at the Hospital for the purposes of research being undertaken by fair Louis Barnett with a view to adopting methods of prevention and cure.— It was agreed that all necessary information be supplied. Stating that it appreciated the, value of post-graduate courses tor selected nurses, the Hospital Boards Association forwarded a recommendation that in such cages boards might pay a minimum allowance ot LbO under an agreement with the nurse to remain three, years with the board after completing the course.—lt was decided to co-operate in every possible W The social welfare officer (Mr \V. H. J.
