TAIKOREA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIKOKEA, March 15. At the monthly meeting of the directors of the Taikcrea Dairy Company there were present Messrs S. E. Algar (chairman), Johnston, Mudford, Foster and Burmeister. The usual routine business was dealt with. The.final meeting of the laikorca School Committee for tho current year was held in the school, Mr R. C. Hill being in the chair) Also present wnre Messrs Cornwall, A. Castle, F. Print and E. C. Print, and J. C. Ward (headmaster). Regret was expressed at the fact that the school would soon be losing Mr Ward, who has been a capable and popular teacher, ihc Taikorca School vacancy was not advertised, an appointment being made by tho Education Board. Tho new teacher will commence his duties on April 1. Mr Ward leaves to take up an assistant-mastership in Wanganui. The children’s tennis court at the school is iiow receiving further attention and the wire-netting ie being put round. The children are very keen on the game, and having their own court should enable them to become quite proficient players. , On Saturday the Women’s Institute held what will very likely be their last annual picnic, as there seems little hope of the institute carrying on. The attendance was not very large, the unpleasant weather and the lateness of the season accounting for this. However, those present spent a happy time with games, races and lolly scrambles. Several races caused much amusement. The Leap Year race was won by Miss Lorna Mudford and Raymond Johnston, with Dot Cornwall and Maurice Print second. Tho ladies’ nail-driving was won •by Miss D. Standen. In this event she and Mrs Hill tied for first place, and in the hit-off Miss Standen won. For the men’s prize all the boys present wore given a trial, and to the surprise of all one of these, Harold Smith won with two strokes—not a bad effort at sending a 21, inch nail home. Messrs R. Johnston and T. Walsh tied for second place. Luncheon and afternoon tea were served under the trees, soft drinks being provided for the children. All showed their appreciation of tho numerous dainties which were served by institute members. An ice-cream stall was well patronised, and once this had paid for itself ice-cream was distributed tree. At the conclusion of afternoon tea, Miss Mavis Smith, the president, thanked Mrs Hilt for lending the ground, providing water for the tea, etc:, also" all who had attended. She hoped that all had enjoyed themselves and caned for cheers lor Mr and Mrs Hill, which were heartily given.
