FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

STRETTO'S NEXT OUTING. (By “Binocular.”) Sunward pulled up lame after contesting tile Hornby Brush Hurdles at lticcarton on Saturday. The ’chaser Copey, whose retirement has been announced more than once, is again a member of the activo ranks at Hawora. Aloidos, who had to be destroyed after meeting with injuries as a result of falling into a ditch, had promised to give good service for Mr L. G. Paul, of Wanganui. The To Awamutu-trainod Stretto has been allowed to take matters easily since the Auckland meeting and it is unlikely thijj she will be called upon to aguiu race before the Champagne Slakes at Ellerslie. Wee Pat will be given a race or two on <iho flat before returning to the jumping branch. Although Wee Pat failed to win a race last season, she earned £460 in stake money. She should continuo to pay her way. After riding at the Dunedin meeting, the southern horsemen L. J. Ellia and G. Humphries intend coming north for the Waikato and To Rapa fixtures. They should not lack for mounts. Princess Margaret is the eognoihen which has been claimed for the two-year-old grey filly by Holylakc from the Chief Ruler mare Royal Baby. She is owned by Dr M. G. Louisson. The name is quite appropriate. T. Chapman, who took Sunee south for the Dunedin meeting at Wingatui, rode the winner of the first race to he decided on the course, winning a liighweight event on Abercrombie. He also added the Maiden Plate on Edelweiss and tho Suburban Welter on Jupiter. Mr IT. L. Bowker has sold Quietly to tho Eklorslio Stud, and the Chief Ruler mare has been retired from racing. She will bo mated with Iliad in the spring. While she won races, Quietly never attained the heights oxpected of her. The Buzzard—Eastern Belle colt, bought by Mr H. Bayly, the owner of Constant Sun, at tho Sydney sales last year has been named The Buzzard. Mr Bayly paid 190 guineas for him. The high-priced jearling filly by Night Raid from Quadrilateral, tho dam of the A.J.C. Derby dead-heater, Homer, who was purchased by Mr George Magill at the Trentliam sales for 800 guineas, will in due course carry the colours of Mr John Spencer Brunton, who raced Homer and also Quarto. Tho Limond—Gencsta colt purchased at the Trentliam sales by Mr J. Jamieson, of Masterton, is to carry the colours of the cx-New Zealander, M. T. McGrath, now a prominent trainer in Victoria. McGrath lias done well with Takakua, who is owned by Mr Jamieson. Loudspeakers are to be installed in all enclosures on tho Epsom (England) racecourse this year, not with a view to giving descriptions of races, but for announcing special notices, such as objections to winners. At England’s principal pony track, Northolt Park, tho scream of a siren notifies a protest. That can be heard all over tho course.

The Night Raid gelding Cardinal Moon, a very promising sort in the short spells in which he was raced, has returned to the track at Trentham. ITc is under his first trainer, T. Yales, who has taken him over on lease from his breeder-owner, Mr J. Telford, in the hope that he may stand up to another preparation. Dollar Prince did not please in his races at Trentham and F. D. Jones sent him home to South Canterbury. His owner, Mr A. S. Ehvorth.v, has placed him under tho care of F. Trilford at Washdykc, and the Paper Money gelding will be given some education over hurdles. The Tj'cntham trainer T. R. George has received from Mr C. O. T. Rutherford, of Blenheim, the two-year-old Gleucos, a brown colt by Rabbi from the Masterpiece rnaro Clicquot. Gleucos is a very sturdilybuilt youngster, and he has already done a fair amount of work. He has also been nominated for races, but so far has not boon started. IJo was taken to Trentham by the jockey I. Rohloff, who has joined up with George’s stable again, after having been in charge of Mr Rutherford’s horses during the last few months, particularly Semper Paratus, who has boon set aside for a spell.
