EWE FAIRS.

GOOD SALE AT PAHIATUA. The Pahiatua ewe fair, hold on Monday was well attended, buyers being present from all the surrounding districts. A. D. Eglinton’is pen of well-grown sheep topped the fair at 38s 6d; J. P. Tylce’s pen brought 365... Tho demand for two-tooths was ox. cepdonally keen and exceeded supply. Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Ltd., report that they offered a large yarding of ewes to a splendid attendance of buyers, who were present from Hawke’s Bay, Wanganui, Wairarapa, Levin, and Manawatu districts. The ewes came forward in splendid condition, due to Hie abundance of feed experienced in the district. Competition for all classes of ewes was very animated and prices exceeded vendors’ expectations. The top price for 4-year-old ewes oh tho day was obtained for a pen which was offered on account of A. W. Ruskell ißaknnui). This wellknown annual draft of owes came forward in good order and realised 30s. Jas. Breeds’s 4-year-old ewes created a great deal of interest and brought tho satisfactory price of 29s 6d. Messrs Dalgcty and C.'oy., Ltd., report that they submitted a large enthy of the leading lines of ewes in the district to a very large attendance of buyers who were present from Otaki, AA’nnganui, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa and all Manawatu and Tnumarunui. The condition of all ewes yarded was the best wc have seen for years. Our entry comprised two large lines of 2-th owes, 1100 from Aohanga Station and 700 from Dr C. P. Knight. They sold readily at most satisfactory prices. It is seven years since such good prices were realised and a shortage of good breeding owes is evident. At tho Apiti ewe fair, on Tuesday, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Ltd., report having offered a large yarding of sheep to a good attendance of 1 buyers. Young ewes were keenly sought after; ewes with good mouths sold well up to recent values, but failing mouth and low conditioned sheep did not meet with a ready market. A good yarding of store lambs sold well up to late rates, and the bulk of the yarding was sold under the hammer. HUNTER VILLE SALE. The New'Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Ltd., report that at the Huntdrville sale a heavy yarding of sheep of all classes came forward.. The demand for sheep was not so keenly evidenced as at recent sales, but nevertheless a good clear anco was effected at satisfactory prices to the vendors. Thero was a email entry of cuttle, but as this was not offered until late in the afternoon it was neglected and few sales resulted. We quote: syr ewes, 23s 6d, ,23s 9d, 245; sound mouthed ewes, 19s, 19s 6d; small ewe lambs, 20s 2d to 21s 3d; medium woolly b.f. lambs, 14s 4d to 15s 3d; small b.f. lambs, 8s 9d to 13s 3d. FITZHERBEIIT SALE. Dalgety and Coy., Ltd., report on their Fitzlierbert sale, lield at Mr Kceblo’s yards yesterday : —An entry of 2600 breeding ewes and lambs 'was submitted to a good attendance,. Tbo sale was a good one, with strong competition on best lines. We quote: 2th ewes, 335; 4 and 6th ewes, 26s 7d: 4yr ewes, 23s to 27s 6d; syr owes, 20s 6d to 245; 6yr ewes, 15s 3d, 18s, 20s; shorn wether lambs, 12s, 15s 6d, 16s 9d; ewe lambs, 17s, 20s 3d.
