HEMP AND TOW.

GRADINGS IN JANUARY. A total of 2669 bales of hemp was graded for export, in the Dominion last month, an incrcuso of 991 bales on the quantity graded in January, 1935. The gradings were as follow, with January, 1935, figures in parentheses : Fine, (21) bales; good fair, 28 (383): high fair, 835 (526): low fair, 1047 (210): common, 427 (456); rejected, 325 (71); condemned, 7 (6). Gradings of tow comprised 488 bales, against 657 in January, 1935. Tho gradings compared as follow:—First grade, 6 (108 bales): second grade, 108 (455) ; third grade, 371 (64); condemned, 3 (—).
