GALES AT HOME.
TRANSPORT INTERRUPTED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Feb. 10. Winds of gale force have swept the country to-day, gusts of 80 miles an hour being reported. Extreme cold prevails, and weather forecasts predict its continuance for several days. There were heavy seas in the English Channel. Two seamen lost their lives this morning when a barge in which they were being towed broke loose near Plymouth and sank. Services between the Isle of Wight and the mainland were interrupted, and the night crossChannel service from Folkestone to Dunkirk has been cancelled. Air services have been delayed. Several homebound liners'- have also been held up. The gale also caused damage and many minor accidents over a wide area inland. The gale reached a velocity of 80 miles an hour at Plymouth this morning, and incoming vessels report weather of the wildest character in the Atlantic. The sea is rough around all coasts and harbours, and many ships have sought shelter.
