OBITUARY.

MRS F. LEAVER,

'Hie unexpected death of Mrs Francis Lewer, of Kai Iwi, Kauwhata, on January 11, caused widespread regret, and many deplored the passing of one who was widely known and respected in the district. The youngest child of the first marriage of "the late Mr James Bennett, her death makes the first break in the family. Born at Sandon, she went with her parents to the Kai Iwi settlement and was married there to Mr P. S. i .ewer, residing about 36 years at the settlement, bringing up

a family of four girls and two boys. She experienced the usual vicissitudes of the early farming community. Mrs Lewcr faithfully supported the religions services and all Christian activities in the settlement. It is of interest to record that her father was the original buttermaker of the district.

There are left to mourn the husband and six children—Maurice, of Levin, Douglas of Kauwhata, Mrs Ada Phillips, of Masterton, Mrs Wainsoott, of Petone, Misses Thelma and Dulcie, of Kauwlmta, and three grandchildren. r l’hc funeral, which took place at the Tedding cemetery, was followed by many mourners as an expression of respect and sympathy to Mr Lewer and family as well as to the Bennett family. Rev. H. AY. Page, associated with Rev. J. H. Allen, conducted the services at the home and later at the graveside. Six brothers, Messrs Richard, Cecil, Hart, Jack, William and Reynold Bennett, acted as pallbearers.
