FEILDING STOCK SALE.

FAT CATTLE RISE. DAIRY PRICES ADVANCE. Decided rises in the prices of fat and dairy cattle were the features of yesterday’s sale, dairy stock being up a £1 per head, while the highest prices of the season ruled in the fat stock ring, where prime bullocks realised up to £l2 and heavy cows up to just under £9. In both these sections the sale went with a swing and competition was keen. Store cattle did not show much change in price, the yarding being mostly short lines of farmers’ cattle. Some pens of station stock were offered, but the reserve was too high in most cases for purchasers. Tho sheep market was comparatively dull, particularly storo sheep, in which mostly hoggets were- on offer. Buyers showed an inclination to hold off until the grass comes away more freely, but apart trorn this there was a fair sprinkling of lowconditioned offerings which did not tempt buyers. Little change was shown in fat sheep prices, where, considering the mixed quality of the yarding, the sale was good. Peak prices were about on a par with recent sales, but for unfinished linos without bloom there was a poor demand. AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. Dalgety and Coy., Ltd., report on yesterday’s sale: An average entry of fat sheep came to hand, the larger proportion being shorn. The quality was a little mixed, but pices remained firm. Fat hoggets were enquired for, and there was a good sale, in this section. A slightly heavier yarding of store sheep was submitted but Ibe quality of tho hoggets with few exceptions was of the lower grade and those met a dull sale. A few lines of ewes and lambs also wore offered, but competition was not particularly good, no doubt owing to the late season and Uic shortage of feet} about. There was a good sale .for beef cattle, the market being firm, with an upward tendency. Run cattle met a steady sale, but hero again the lack of feed had some effect on the market. Dairy stock showing quality and close to profit were in strong demand, and yesterday s sale was tho best, in this section that has been seen for some time. We quote:—Fat shorn hoggets, 16s lOd; fat woolly hoggets, 22s 7d, 22s 8d ; fat owes, 14s 7d, 18s 9d, 20s 3d, 20s 6d; fat b.f. ewes, 19s 4d; fat shorn ewes, 11s 6d to 14s 9d; fat wethers, 22s 6d to 27s 6d; ewe hoggets, 21s 6d, 23s lOd; wether hoggets, 16s. Heifers, r.w.b., £4 17s 6d, £5, £5 12s 6d to £6 12s 6d; Jersey cows, -r.w.b., £5 7s 6d; fat P.A. cows, £8; fat Hereford cows, £6 18s 6d; fat cows, £3 10s, £3 17s 6d, £4 2s 6d, £4 15S, £7; P.A. ylg. steers, £4 14s; P.A. and Here, steers, £6 '6s; store cows, 30s, 335, 39s to £2 11s.

Abraham and Williams; Ltd.; report good yardingß in all sections, the inquiry for all classes of stock not being quite so keen as has been the case over the past few weeks. The store sheep entry was comprised principally of owe and wether hoggets of just' medium quality, and consequently just a fair sale resulted. Some good quality fat ewes were submitted and for these values were firm at recent rates. A heavy yarding of both beef nad dairy cattle came to hand, the quality of the beef submitted not being figst-class, with the result that just a failsale resulted. Dairy cows, both cows and heifers of quality and close to profit, sold well with practically a total clearance at auction. A lair entry of run bred eattl.c came forward, the market for these being sticky, with few sales effected. Yearling Jersey heifers showing quality sold freely', the supply in this section not being equal to the demand.
