GAOL SENTENCE.
MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE. MELBOURNE, Sept. 27. Clifford Smiles has been sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for the manslaughter of his wife and daughter, who were found dead in a gasiilled room in their home at West Eootscray on June 14. Smiles was tried previously on a murder charge, hut the jury, failed to reach an agreement. At the newtrial a verdict of manslaughter was returned.
