CLERGY AND COMMUNISTS.
DECLARATION AT SYDNEY. SYDNEY, Sept. 27. The Communist Party at Granville, a suburb of Sydney, preparatory to holding a meeting to advocate “Hands off Abyssinia,” sent invitations to clergy in the district to attend and give their co-operation. A spokesman for the clergy replied regretting they were unable to attend. “AVe desire vour Commuuist organisation to know that the Christian Church is against war, whether Imperialist or Bolshevist. AA : e strongly condemn Italy’s attack on Abyssinia, but feci wo cannot associate ourselves with the Communist Party, which has waged relentless war on religion throughout the world. AVe say emphatically, not only hands off Abyssinia, but ‘hands off religion.’ ”
