NAVAL DEFENCE
NEW AUCKLAND BASE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. Contracts wil shortly be let by the Public Works Department for the clearing and '.eclamation of that part of Kauri Point Domain, Auckland, which a recent Government Gazette notice stated had been taken for naval defence purpose. It is understood the Government’s intention is to provide at Kauri Point adequate repair and storage facilities for services connected with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy and to make additional provision for the upkeep of li.M.S. Leander and Achilles. A scheme for the reconstruction of the naval base having been unproved and the work commenced, the Minister for Defence said to-dav that lie had arranged with the Minister of Public Works for as much as possible of the work to be undertaken by co-operative contract.
